Vinyl chloride is a colorless gas with a sweet and mild odor. Workers are exposed to vinyl chloride in many factorie, refineries and petrochemical plants. For a short time vinyl chloride gas was used as an inhalational anaesthetic, like ethyl chloride (EC). Even today small amounts of vinyl chloride are used in furniture and automobile upholstery, wall coverings, plastic films, strink wrap, molded plastic parts, housewares, and automotive parts. Vinyl chloride as a known carcinogen.  Multiple medical studies of PVC and VCM workers that have been exposed to vapors, gases and fumes of vinyl chloride over an extended period of time has shown increased risks of liver, angiosarcoma of the liver, brain cancer and lung cancer.
