Vinyl chloride is a colorless gas with a sweet and mild odor. Workers are exposed to vinyl chloride in many factorie, refineries and petrochemical plants. Vinyl chloride is produced by breaking down ethylene and /or acetylene and other gases, and chemicals.  Vinyl chloride is used to make polyvinyl chloride (PVC), which is used to manufacture PVC pipe, plastic films, wraps and other products. Until 1974, vinyl chloride was used in aerosol spray propellant a many popular brands of hair spray resulting in cancer to many beauty shop worker, barbers and hair stylists.

Even today small amounts of vinyl chloride are used in furniture and automobile upholstery, wall coverings, plastic films, strink wrap, molded plastic parts, housewares, and automotive parts. Vinyl chloride as a known carcinogen.  Multiple medical studies of PVC and VCM workers that have been exposed to vapors, gases and fumes of vinyl chloride over an extended period of time has shown increased risks of liver, angiosarcoma of the liver, brain cancer and lung cancer.
